The European Court of Human Rights has already planted the seed of reluctance and leniency towards giving Full Life Tariffs in the minds of our Judges, as it is against the Human Rights of the perpetrator. This is why FFFJ needs your support in signing our petition.
From the BBC article ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-25315320 );
“The judge told the court he had considered handing Du a whole life order. Explaining his decision not to do so, however, he cited a European Court of Human Rights ruling that such tariffs breach a prisoners human rights.
Following the ECHR ruling UK courts have been declining to pass whole life orders, says Altman.
The judge also quoted case law that the order was reserved for "the few exceptionally serious offences... when the judge is satisfied that the element of just punishment and retribution requires the imposition of a whole life order. It is not a mandatory or automatic or minimum sentence". On this basis he said a whole life order was not appropriate.
According to section 21, exceptionally serious cases warranting a whole life order include:
The murder of two or more people where each killing involves a substantial degree of premeditation, abduction or sexual or sadistic conduct.
The murder of a child, if this involves abduction or a sexual or sadistic motivation.
Murder for the purpose of advancing a political, religious or ideological cause.
Murder by an offender previously convicted of murder.”
If the interference of The European Court of Human Rights is allowed to continue, then the perpetrators of cases involving sexual or sadistic conduct, or racially, religiously or sexual orientation incited killings would be shown more leniency. They would be shown leniency in reviews under articles 3, 5, 7 and 8 of the European Human Rights Act, and thus render the original sentence of the whole life tariff meaningless.
We need your support to sign this petition, as I am fully aware that the majority of the people in this country are staunch supporters of the idea “If you take a life with intent, you should serve the remainder of your life in prison”. I ask all those supporters who agree with us, with Families Fighting For Justice, to help us push this petition forwards to Parliament with your signatures and support.

The new Code of Practice for Victims’ of Crime
It is crucial to the success of the new Code that victims are fully aware of the services and support they are entitled to receive. The revised Code places a new duty on criminal justice agencies and Police and Crime Commissioners to include information about the Victims’ Code on their websites to raise awareness more broadly of victims’ entitlements. Victims’ groups, being on the frontline, also have a critical part to play in raising awareness of the Code among victims. We have therefore attached some text which you might wish to put on your organisations website to highlight the support available to victims.
The MoJ is producing materials for victims which highlight their entitlements under the Code. These include:
. leaflet guides to the Code for adult victims of crime and those under 18 years
. an EasyRead version of the guide for those with learning difficulties
. an audio version of the leaflet
. a poster
. a YouTube video for under 18s
These materials will be available on www.gov.uk
Communications on 10th December
The day the Code comes into force provides a good opportunity for promoting the Code and we will be using social media to raise awareness of the Code on that day. We would encourage you to also tweet some messages on the Code using the #victimscode or retweet the messages we will be sending out from @MoJGovUK on 10th December
